New piece for ‘The Great Gatsby’ up at Shortlist today. Many thanks for having me. Check out all the great work.
Later today, Spoke Art will be releasing my Taxi Driver print for the Scorsese Tribute Show from this past weekend at Bold Hype Gallery.
It is an edition of 20, 18” x 24” hand made screen prints.
Some folks have been curious about my theme/metaphor/process. So here’s a quick explanation:
Throughout the film, Travis mentions that he is “God’s lonely man” and that somehow with just a strike of bad luck he must have been born with loneliness since it has followed him his whole life.
But by nature we are NOT lonely. We make ourselves lonely through isolation. The visual metaphor I created was a direct interpretation of self-isolation and how Travis uses extreme violence against those he deems “scum.” All this in hopes that he will become a Martyr for not just himself but for those he wants to save: The country from Palantine, Betsy from her job and the guy she works with, and Iris from her pimp Sport.
